ALEX MORGAN BIO
Morgan was born July 2, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her along with her sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan played many sports throughout her early years, but didn't really like soccer until she reached 14. Following high school, Morgan was a part of Cypress Elite's club team. They were the winners of the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and finished third in their under-19 bracket. Morgan continued to improve her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) picked Morgan to be an All-American Athlete. She was also a participant of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan continued her career in soccer at UC Berkeley. She led the California Golden Bears team's scoring in her very first season. She helped bring the team into the NCAA Tournament all four years and twice to the second round. Morgan was one of four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. This was the first time she was one of the Hermann Trophy finalists to be ranked in the top spot on the list. Following her graduation earlier in the year, Morgan was ranked third in all-time points and goals for Berkeley. Morgan was able to maintain soccer careers at both the level of the national and college during her education. The first time she was on the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that kept her from playing with the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April. In Mexico, Morgan scored her first international soccer goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a part of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup which she scored four goals while receiving an Olympic gold medal, along with other accolades.Morgan was later absorbed into the national team's senior squad, in which she was substituted and scored a number of crucial goals. One of these was a victory goal against Italy that secured the U.S. team a final spot in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player on the team and helped to win the game against France. Morgan was able to win despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score both a goal or assist.
